HELPING OTHERS AS A LIFE PROJECT

When he was young, the author of "A Path to the Soul" was not satisfied with the successes and failures he had harvested throughout his life: plunged into a mirage, he resisted abandoning his bonds. After a pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago, he discovered the value of what really matters: helping others. After living in the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, the author undertook a new itinerary: that of NGOs and volunteers, that of unconditional surrender to others and the discovery of himself. This trip took him to Ghana, where he founded HOLA GHANA, and India, Colombia and Mexico, countries where it also generates impact and channels volunteers and resources for different local projects. For the author of this extraordinary testimony, the books are not chosen: each one arrives at the time when it is most needed. In accordance with this conviction, the purpose of this book is to serve as inspiration to help us change the course of our lives. A wake-up call for skeptics and conformists to go beyond our comfort zone, free ourselves from everything that limits us and prevents us from reinventing ourselves, reaching our best version and positively influencing those around us.

A path to the soul ”is a journey. It is not only a physical journey (since the experiences of Óscar Pérez, its author, take us to different places in the world from which he has obtained many and wise lessons), but an expedition towards ourselves: towards our failures and our achievements, towards our sorrows and our joys, towards our losses and our profits, those that really matter and that one always carries with them in the precious luggage of the heart.

I have recognized in many of its fragments moments that I have personally lived, states of feeling in which I have ever encountered and very similar experiences to vital moments that I have had to live. And I am fully convinced that many readers will also recognize each other. And it is that this book, far from pretending to be a manual of use for life, manages to be so from inspiration and non-imposition, through close  andvital experiences that invite reflection and, in in most cases, to the readers complicit smile when it is reflected in many of its chapters.

Óscar reminds us that there isn´t a moment when everything is lost, that things happen because they had to happen and that they do not happen, simply, because they were not written to happen. And yet, at every step, on every path of the road, every experience, good or seemingly bad, has brought us more light, more knowledge, more strength to keep walking. Óscar, through his accumulation of shared experiences, shows the phrase of the poet and writer Arturo Graf: “in life you don't get a profit that is not accompanied by a loss".

Thank you, Oscar, for reminding us, as you say, that the world would be more humane if a greater number of people devoted most of their time to their passions, to what they love.
